Iran has delivered a stern warning to the United States following President Donald Trump’s announcement that an interim agreement meant to ease tensions between the two nations is now “over.” Ali Akbar Velayati, a key adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, accused the U.S. of reigniting hostilities in the Gulf region. He cautioned that Trump’s actions have brought the area closer to conflict and emphasized that Iran is ready to respond swiftly to any further military provocations.
Velayati made it clear that Iran is on high alert, stating that the nation has its “finger on the trigger” and will not stay silent in the face of what he perceives as threats and provocations from the U.S. The statement came after Trump, during a NATO summit, declared the ceasefire agreement null and void. This development followed new Iranian assaults on American military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait, which were in retaliation to U.S. strikes on Iranian sites after attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. president has also signaled that additional military measures against Iran remain on the table. He indicated that if Tehran continues its aggressive actions, American forces might launch further strikes, potentially targeting strategic locations such as Kharg Island. This escalation has cast further doubt on the possibility of reinstating the ceasefire and has heightened concerns about a broader conflict in the Gulf region.
