The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) has revealed that its International Certificate in Operational Risk Management (ICORM) along with three other professional risk management award programs are now eligible for funding from the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) in Malaysia. This development is set to broaden access to globally acknowledged risk management education for Malaysian professionals and employers.
This initiative is strategically aimed at enhancing Malaysian professionals’ competencies in enterprise risk management, an area of growing importance as businesses navigate the complexities of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and governance. IRM’s announcement is in line with Malaysia’s workforce development goals, particularly as the country faces a shortage of skills in risk management roles. The organization is committed to providing adaptable, workplace-oriented training that enhances decision-making and boosts organizational resilience.
The programs funded by HRD Corp include “Managing AI Risks in the Workplace,” which addresses governance, ethical, and operational risks related to artificial intelligence; “Financial Services Risk Management,” which focuses on risk management practices within banking, insurance, and financial services; and “Managing Organisational Risks,” which introduces the principles of enterprise risk management. The ICORM program delves into operational risk frameworks, control mechanisms, monitoring, reporting, risk culture, and event management.
IRM Asia, the regional branch of the organization and an officially registered HRD Corp training provider, has stated that eligible Malaysian employers can access funding for these approved programs, thereby investing in professional qualifications that are recognized internationally. This move is part of IRM’s larger strategy to expand professional risk management education throughout the ASEAN region and to help organizations build sustainable risk management capabilities over the long term.
