Cambodia is intensifying its efforts to modernize its transport and logistics infrastructure as part of a strategic push to enhance trade competitiveness and integrate more deeply with regional and global supply chains. This initiative is spearheaded by the Cambodian government, which recently held a Council of Ministers meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hun Manet to assess progress in improving supply chains, trade routes, and transportation systems.
The government’s approach is outlined in the Comprehensive Master Plan on the Cambodian Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023–2033. This plan encompasses a wide range of projects focused on roads, railways, waterways, ports, aviation, logistics, and intermodal transport, with a total of 174 development projects identified. The aim is to reduce transit costs and create more efficient links between domestic markets and international trade corridors.
By upgrading its infrastructure, Cambodia seeks to bolster its manufacturing and agro-processing sectors while attracting foreign investment. The reforms are intended to position Cambodia as a key player in regional and global trade networks, supporting higher-value industries and enhancing the country’s overall economic competitiveness.
The government’s strategy aims not only to improve logistical efficiency but also to support economic growth by facilitating smoother trade operations. By focusing on comprehensive infrastructure development, Cambodia hopes to become a more attractive destination for investors and strengthen its role in the global market.
